KELLY’S (DE)TOUR: Does Loeffler Stand Behind Trump’s Reckless Anti-Health Care Agenda?

July 15, 2020

Loeffler must say if she backs Trump administration-endorsed lawsuit to “terminate” the health care law and its critical protections

ATLANTA — As President Donald Trump comes to Georgia today and puts unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler’s “GOP feud” with Congressman Doug Collins on full display, the Democratic Party of Georgia is calling on Loeffler to skip her usual (de)tour and answer a key question about whether she truly stands “100%” with Trump and Republican leadership:

Once and for all: Does Loeffler support the Trump administration-backed lawsuit to completely overturn the entire health care law and end its critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions?

Even as Loeffler hugs Trump in a desperate attempt to “shore up her conservative credentials,” she still has not clearly stated whether she agrees with Trump’s efforts to “terminate” the law that has provided vital health care protections in the middle of a pandemic.

In addition to the 178,000 Georgians who have already lost their coverage during the coronavirus outbreak, here’s a reminder of what the White House’s preferred outcome in this case looks like for Georgia:

“Senator Kelly Loeffler needs to make it clear: Does she stand with the Trump White House and this reckless anti-health care lawsuit, or does she stand with Georgia families worried about losing their health insurance in the middle of a pandemic?” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “If Loeffler really does stand behind Donald Trump and Washington GOP leaders ‘100%’ — including their efforts to overturn the health care law — then it’s time for her to explain her position to Georgia voters more concerned than ever about losing their access to care.”
