NEW: While Georgia Medicare and Social Security Grow Stronger Under Biden and Democrats, GOP Has Plan that Could End Guarantee

A new report shows that Medicare and Social Security have been “bolstered by growing economy” under President Biden and Democrats

The newly-released annual report from Medicare and Social Security’s trustees brought good news for Georgians: both programs are in better shape since President Biden took office. Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ leadership, “economic recovery from the 2020 recession has been stronger and faster than assumed.” Georgia employment has rebounded quickly after it ballooned under Donald Trump, with unemployment at only 3.1% as of April thanks in large part to the American Rescue Plan that Democrats – including Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock –  passed with no Republican support. 

Meanwhile, Republicans are headed into the 2022 midterms with a plan that could end the Medicare and Social Security guarantee. The impact of the Republican plan on Georgia seniors and Georgians with disabilities could be disastrous, as nearly 1.8 million Georgians rely on Medicare for their health coverage and 1.9 million Georgians receive Social Security benefits each month to cover everything from rent to putting food on the table. 

“Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, Georgia unemployment is at historic lows, household financial well-being reached an all-time high last year, and new small business applications are being filed at record rates – and this economic recovery has meant that the Medicare and Social Security benefits Georgians rely on are in better shape than they’ve been in years,” said Rebecca Galanti, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Meanwhile, Republicans have a plan that could end the Medicare and Social Security guarantee for millions of Georgia. It’s simple: Georgians just can’t afford Republicans’ agenda.”
