Democratic Party of Georgia Slams Trump’s Comments That “Georgia Has Been a Great Example” on COVID-19

July 16, 2020

In response to remarks from President Trump yesterday in Atlanta that “Georgia has been a great example of a state that’s done it all right,” Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG) Chairwoman Nikema Williams released the following statement:

“Trump’s remarks yesterday underscore his failure to understand the scope of this crisis. We now have over 100,000 COVID-19 cases in Georgia, and more than 3,000 Georgians have died. To Trump, that’s a success — it’s not a success, it’s an utter catastrophe. Following Trump’s lead, Governor Kemp refused to implement a stay-at-home order early on and ignored public health guidance when opening Georgia’s economy back up, despite a rising coronavirus death toll. Now, Kemp has banned local governments from passing face mask ordinances that we know keep Georgians safe. Georgians cannot afford another four years of Trump’s failed leadership. We must elect a president who listens to public health officials and will help get Georgians back on their feet. We must elect Joe Biden on November 3rd.”
