Georgia Democrats Condemn Renee Unterman’s Racially Charged Mailer

ATLANTA – Today, Jen D. Rafanan, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus, issued a statement condemning Republican candidate Renee Unterman’s racially charged mailer:

“Reckless, race-baiting language like Renee Unterman’s is dangerous for GA-07’s large Asian American and Pacific Islander community, who are already threatened by the recent surge of hate crimes across Georgia and the country. We need leaders who will bring people together during this crisis, not incite dangerous rhetoric against their neighbors.

For too long, Asian Americans have been conditioned to be the ‘model minority,’ and only celebrated as part of America when we are not rocking the boat. We are human beings struggling with the same global challenges facing everyone else, and we deserve the same respect and compassion as every other Georgian.

Senator Unterman has proved for years that she’s just like every other extreme conservative career politician — and now, when the constituents she hopes to serve are at greater risk, she’d rather fan the flames of President Trump’s divisive politics than work to protect Georgians.”

Georgia’s 7th Congressional District is the heart of Georgia’s Asian American and Pacific Islander community. There are over 176,000 Georgia voters who self-identify as AAPI — of these, 53,083, or 30% of the statewide population lives in CD7.
