NEW: Herschel Walker: “There’s Not A National Ban On Abortion Right Now And I Think That’s A Problem”

As the 11th Circuit federal appeals court ruled that Georgia’s restrictive abortion law should be allowed to take effect, Herschel Walker told reporters “there’s not a national ban on abortion right now and I think that’s a problem.” 

Walker, who has previously been clear that he wants to make abortion illegal, including in cases of rape, incest, or even to save the life of the mother — saying, there’s “no exception in [his] mind — has now confirmed that he would support a national abortion ban.

  • Herschel Walker did a Q&A with reporters in Athens about an hour before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals handed down the ruling which effectively banned most abortions in Georgia.
  • Asked about whether he would support a national abortion ban if he was elected and the U.S. Senate flipped to Republican control, Walker said, “There’s not a national ban on abortion right now and I think that’s a problem. I’m pro-life and I’m not going to make an excuse for it.”
  • Pressed on whether he would vote for a federal ban if it came up Walker replied this way: “Well, I think that’s an ‘if’ and I think that’s not what we don’t we need to worry about. We need to worry about right now there’s not a national ban on abortion.”
  • Walker has said he opposes abortion in all cases, with no exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother.
