Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia held a virtual press conference ahead of Trump’s rally, highlighting the dangers of the former president and his handpicked candidates who’ve spent the early days of their campaigns flaunting conspiracy theories, ignoring policy questions, and mired in intra-party fighting.
State Rep. Miriam Paris joined Houston County Democratic Chair Courtney Driver and State Rep. Teri Anulewicz in contrasting Republicans’ chaos and infighting with Democrats’ efforts to end the pandemic, expand access to healthcare, and revitalize Georgia’s infrastructure, including a new interstate through Middle Georgia.

“Trump Republicans have made it clear. They would rather prioritize Donald Trump over fighting COVID-19, Donald Trump over the creation of new jobs, Donald Trump over revitalizing infrastructure, and Trump over saving our democracy. For them, it is Trump over everything – even over Georgians,” said State Representative Miriam Paris. “As we move forward, we must stay focused on everything that the Biden agenda is bringing forward and continue with the work ahead to create a better, healthier and more prosperous Georgia. Democrats are committed to that. And we urge all Republicans to leave Trump extremism behind and join us in that effort.”
“Over the last eight months, the Biden administration, Senators Reverend Warnock and Jon Ossoff, and the entire Democratic Congressional delegation have been focusing on things that actually matter to Georgians: defeating the pandemic, expanding access to health care, creating good paying jobs, and getting our economy back on track. President Biden delivered tax cuts for working families like mine, and has brought both sides of the aisle together for an infrastructure bill that will build a new generation of good paying jobs right here in Georgia. That bill includes a brand new interstate highway running right through Georgia,” said Courtney Driver, Chair of Houston County Democrats. “I-14 will be a huge economic boon for Houston County, but Georgia Republicans — including Herschel Walker and every other GOP Senate candidate — are opposing it. These are the sorts of investments that Georgia Republicans should be focusing on as we continue to fight against COVID-19 and work to build back better.”
“None of Trump’s candidates are running to address the issues working families are facing right now or defeat the virus. We’ve seen time and time again throughout these past 17 months that Georgia Republicans — from Brian Kemp to the entire GOP Senate field — would rather turn the pandemic into political theater than save Georgians’ lives. If the GOP actually cared about getting our economy back on track and keeping Georgians safe, they would stand with Democrats to focus on increasing our vaccination rates and mitigating the spread of COVID-19,” said State Representative Teri Anulewicz. “While Republicans are so caught up in re-litigating past elections and bending to Trump’s every will, Democrats are staying laser-focused on the future and delivering for our state. And we’ll make sure Georgians remember that from now until November 2022.”
