GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker canceled a rare meet and greet with Georgians today after Donald Trump invited him to a closed-press, high-dollar fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago. It’s the latest in a troublesome pattern for the Trump-tapped candidate, who has made a habit of “only participat[ing] in closely controlled campaign events, including some that require tickets, forbid video recording and restrict media access,” and avoiding Georgians while maintaining a “busy slate of lucrative paid speaking engagements behind closed doors.”

In response, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“Herschel Walker is showing Georgians his real priorities, putting Trump and his high-dollar Mar-a-Lago donors over everyday Georgia voters. Walker refuses to put Georgians first as a candidate, and he’d do the same in the U.S. Senate — making him unfit to serve our state.”
