Walker and Georgia GOP Senate Field Refuse to Support Voting Rights Legislation to Protect Georgians’ Access to the Ballot Box

October 20, 2021

As the U.S. Senate takes up the Freedom to Vote Act to protect every eligible Georgia voter’s access to the ballot box, Herschel Walker and the entire Georgia GOP Senate field are supporting policies that would make it harder for Georgians to vote.

  • Herschel Walker, Trump’s hand-picked candidate, says that limiting Georgians’ access to convenient, secure voting drop boxes was “a very good start,” while claiming that Georgia’s restrictive new voting laws— that make it harder for eligible voters to cast their ballots —will help him “get a fair shot” in the Senate race.
  • Gary Black condemned the effort to protect voting rights on the federal level, claiming protecting eligible Georgia voters’’ access to the ballot was an effort to “nationalize our elections.”

“Instead of supporting voting rights legislation to help Georgia, Herschel Walker and every other Georgia GOP Senate candidate are praising restrictive voting laws and refusing to safeguard Georgia voters’ access to the ballot box,” said Dan Gottlieb, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
