Atlanta, GA – Last night, House Republicans met behind closed doors and voted to effectively gut the Office of Congressional Ethics. After intense public outcry and criticism from Democrats, Republicans reversed course this morning and scrapped their own plans to overhaul the ethics department.

Since the vote was secret, Georgians are in the dark of knowing if any or all of Georgia’s 10 House Republicans were among the 119 members of the House Republican Conference who voted to eliminate the only independent ethics oversite of their own actions.

“The GOP is doing nothing to alleviate fears of an unaccountable majority party if this is their priority on the first day of the 115th Congress. So far, none of our 10 House Republicans have indicated if they voted for this betrayal of public trust. Georgians deserve answers, and Democrats are calling on these members to disclose just how they voted” – DuBose Porter, Chair
