Help Move Georgia Forward
Following today’s vote, Loeffler made clear she’s standing with McConnell and Senate Republicans rather than with Americans demanding witnesses testimony
ATLANTA — Today, “political mega-donor” Kelly Loeffler followed through on her pledge to “100%” stand behind Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell by voting again to block direct witnesses despite the will of “a bipartisan majority of Americans.” Loeffler’s vote is another endorsement of McConnell’s pledge to “take [his] cues from the president’s lawyers” — committing his party to a cover-up and a flagrant disregard for the Senate’s duty to get to the truth.
Given her weak poll numbers among Republicans and a new conservative intraparty challenger, it’s no wonder Loeffler is scrambling to show support for a president who may not have her back. Loeffler’s even resorted to attacking her Senate colleagues over the trial, lashing out at her former “friend” Senator Mitt Romney after his bipartisan call for witnesses.
“Kelly Loeffler is once again putting her own political goals over upholding her constitutional duties,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Georgians want and deserve a fair Senate trial, but instead Loeffler is marching in lockstep with Mitch Connell as part of this cover-up of the president’s abuse of power.”
