Today, Georgia Republicans in the State Legislature passed HB 1084 – a centerpiece of Brian Kemp’s extreme, anti-education agenda – which would censor what can be taught in Georgia classrooms, deprive students of a complete and honest education, pit parents against educators, and make teachers’ already difficult jobs even harder.
The legislation has faced staunch and vocal opposition from educators, teachers, and parents — and comes after a report last year showed one in four teachers are considering leaving the profession due to job-related stress. In response, the Democratic Party of Georgia released the following statement:
“Brian Kemp’s plan to attack teachers and ban kids from learning a full and honest history of our nation is entirely driven by politics — faced with a brutal primary, he’s embracing extreme policies and big government censorship in Georgia classrooms to support his re-election campaign. Parents and teachers can and do work together to give our children the best education possible, and politicians like Kemp should keep their partisan agendas out of the classroom,” stated Max Flugrath, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
