Brutal” and “Bitter GOP Fight” Continues

Today, Brian Kemp released the latest attack ad in his bitter GOP primary fight against former Senator David Perdue. In the new ad, Kemp doubles down on his belief that women shouldn’t be able to access safe and legal abortions, and criticizes Perdue for not signing a brief in 2020 in support of overturning Roe v. Wade.

The ad highlights a trend in Kemp’s campaign — prioritizing issues which a vast majority of Georgians oppose. 68% of Georgia voters oppose overturning Roe v. Wade and nearly 70% oppose Kemp’s priority permit-less carry legislation, which would make it easier for people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public — without a permit and its background check process. On the other hand, 71% of Georgians support expanding Medicaid, an initiative that both Kemp and Perdue staunchly oppose.

“If Brian Kemp truly cared about the lives of Georgians, he would take action to save lives by fully expanding Medicaid and stop his call for permit-less carry, which will put more guns on our streets and make our communities and law enforcement officers less safe. Kemp’s relentless push for unpopular, harmful policies and stubborn opposition to favorable initiatives which would benefit Georgia’s working families tells us all we need to know — he’s a typical politician, more concerned with his own re-election than the well-being of his constituents,” stated Max Flugrath, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
