Perdue calls law protecting 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions “an abomination”
ATLANTA — This weekend, as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spike in Georgia, Senator David Perdue doubled down on his support for the GOP-backed lawsuit to overturn the entire health care law, which would end its critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions.
FOX 5’s Russ Spencer: “Do you support the Trump administration position that the Supreme Court should strike down what’s left of Obamacare — the Affordable Care Act? And talk about the politics of that at a time when people are losing their jobs and their health insurance.”
Perdue: “Well first of all, we’ve wasted a decade and we know what a debacle the Obamacare law was…It has been an abomination…I support the President and his attempt to do that.”
Perdue has previously said he “of course” supports this disastrous lawsuit — and has refused to give any clear specifics about how to provide coverage to the millions who would lose access to care and coverage protections if this lawsuit succeeds. As a reminder, here’s what the White House and Perdue’s preferred outcome would look like in this case that is being heard by the Supreme Court:
“It’s unfortunately no surprise that Senator David Perdue would double down on his support for a lawsuit that would end coverage protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions in the middle of a global pandemic,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Even while other Republican politicians in Washington privately panic about the political ‘risk’ of dismantling a law that has proven critical during this public health crisis, Perdue is still continuing with his reckless crusade to rip away access to health care no matter what the cost is for Georgia families.”
