Today, Herschel Walker has found yet another excuse to avoid Georgians on the campaign trail: a golf tournament in Florida hosted by none other than his biggest benefactor, Donald Trump.

It’s the latest in a troublesome pattern for Walker, who has made a habit of “only participat[ing] in closely controlled campaign events, including some that require tickets, forbid video recording and restrict media access,” maintaining a “busy slate of lucrative paid speaking engagements behind closed doors,” and avoiding Georgians — even canceling a rare meet and greet with voters last week to attend Trump’s latest closed-press, high-dollar fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago.

Meanwhile, CNN reported last week that “Walker’s campaign topped federal candidate spending at Trump properties last year,” having “spent more than $135,000 last December at Trump’s private Florida club, Mar-a-Lago.”

In response, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“Herschel Walker is showing Georgians where his real priorities lie – he’s too busy for everyday Georgia voters, but has all the time in the world for Donald Trump. Walker refuses to put Georgians first as a candidate, and he’d do the same in the U.S. Senate — making him unfit to serve our state. Georgia deserves better.”
