Help Move Georgia Forward
Supreme Court to take up GOP-backed lawsuit that could end critical protections for Georgians with pre-existing conditions while increasing costs and slashing coverage
ATLANTA — Republican senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler and Senate hopeful Doug Collins all continued their reckless support for the GOP-backed anti-health care lawsuit today as the Supreme Court announced it would take up the case. This dangerous lawsuit aims to overturn the entire health care law, which would end its critical protections for Georgians with pre-existing conditions.
Perdue and Collins both repeatedly voted in support of gutting the health care law and undermining its protections for those with pre-existing conditions, not to mention raise costs and worsen coverage across the board. Perdue even went as far as to claim “of course” he supports the lawsuit to end these crucial health care protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions.
Loeffler, meanwhile, has pledged to stand with the White House and Senate Republicans “100%” as she desperately tries to hold off top Trump ally Collins in their “brutal Republican-on-Republican fight” — and Georgians can bet Loeffler will continue putting her political career over their access to health care.
“Georgia Republicans will stop at nothing to rip away health care from Georgia families to appease their Washington party bosses and special interests,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “By continuing to threaten critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions, Senators Perdue and Loeffler and Congressman Collins are showing that they care more about appeasing party leaders than standing up for Georgians.”
