Georgia Republicans Silent on 10-Year-Old Ohio Victim, Possibilities in a Post-Roe Georgia

July 18, 2022

After Republicans spent a week smearing a 10-year-old rape victim who sought an abortion out-of-state and defaming the doctor who provided her care, Georgia’s Republican delegation has remained silent on the consequences for Georgia women in a post-Roe v. Wade America and whether such a case could happen here, too.

Republicans’ silence persists as both sides in the 11th Circuit Court case challenging Brian Kemp’s 2019 abortion ban now await the court’s ruling on that law. While Georgia Democrats continue to highlight the importance of protecting reproductive freedom, Georgia Republicans up and down the ticket have remained silent on the impact of Kemp’s 6-week ban, even as nearly three-fourths of Georgians oppose the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade – and as the country witnesses the devastating repercussions of severe abortion bans in other states.

“Now that Republicans have achieved their decades-long goal of erasing women’s rights to reproductive health care, Georgia Republicans are forced to grapple with what the tragic case in Ohio portends for our state. Do they believe ten-year-olds should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term? Georgians need to know – now,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki.
