Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, the Supreme Court of the United States will hear oral arguments on Texas’ dangerous six-week abortion ban, which makes no exceptions for cases of rape or incest and allows citizens to file lawsuits against anyone who “aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion.” The Texas ban, modeled partly after Brian Kemp’s 2019 abortion ban, is supported by Herschel Walker and the entire Georgia GOP Senate field. After Kemp’s ban was struck down by the courts last year, Georgia Republicans are now “hoping to pass portions of Texas’ new restrictive abortion law in Georgia next legislative session.”
In response to today’s SCOTUS hearing, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and Staci Fox, CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates, issued the following joint statement:
“Today, the Supreme Court will review a ruling that has put reproductive freedom in more danger than ever before — and Georgia Republicans, from Brian Kemp to Herschel Walker, are supporting this dangerous effort to undermine Roe v. Wade and strip away the rights of individuals and families to make their own health care decisions. From setting bounties on health care providers to barring medical intervention even in cases of rape and incest, this egregious ban cannot stand. The stakes in 2022 for Georgia families couldn’t be clearer, and we will do everything in our power to safeguard Georgians’ reproductive freedom and hold Republicans accountable for backing this shameful ban.”
Elected leaders, reproductive freedom advocates, and everyday Georgians are making it clear that anyone who tries to take away reproductive rights will be held accountable:
