Five Key Questions Loeffler STILL Has Not Answered About Her Stock Trading Scandal

May 27, 2020

After dodging questions and trying to spin her way out of her scandal for weeks, Loeffler still won’t be straight with Georgians about her stock trades

ATLANTA — As unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler tries to spin her investigation by the FBI over her coronavirus stock trading, she still has left several critical questions about her stock trades unanswered — despite her repeated efforts at damage control and blame shifting.

If Loeffler really has “welcomed any questions” about her scandal as she’s previously claimed, then she could start with these:

  1. Is Loeffler under investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee or the Securities and Exchange Commission, to which she also supplied documents related to her stock trades?
  2. If she first knew about her massive stock sell-offs by February 16th, why did she later claim on March 10th that “the economy is strong?”
  3. Who was the unnamed “third party advisor” who Loeffler claims made these trades along with a member of her “personal family office”?
  4. Did Loeffler ever discuss her private Senate coronavirus briefing with her husband, Intercontinental Exchange CEO and New York Stock Exchange Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher, who also was caught dumping millions in stock in a transaction reportedly initiated potentially just two days after that closed-door briefing?
  5. Why is Loeffler STILL refusing to put her assets in a blind trust like her predecessor Senator Johnny Isakson — who called blind trusts “the best way to comply…with the ethics disclosures”

Loeffler has been dodging questions and casting blame for weeks. But with her poll numbers still dropping and party leaders openly worrying about her ability to “damage down-ballot contenders,” it’s clear that the damage has already been done to Loeffler’s sinking campaign.

“Senator Kelly Loeffler may think her devastating scandal is behind her, but she has already lost voters’ trust and still refuses to come clean about questions surrounding her well-timed stock trades,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Georgians deserve the truth about Loeffler’s stock trading — and after week after week of slow-drip revelations about her growing scandal, it’s past time for her to start providing answers.”
