Early Voting for Municipal Elections Across Georgia Begins Today

October 16, 2023

Today, October 16th, is the start of in-person early voting for the November 7th municipal elections across Georgia. This week the state will also start mailing absentee ballots to those who have requested them. Georgians may submit requests for absentee ballots through October 27th.

We encourage all Georgians to make a plan to vote early in the best way for them using the information below and on DPG’s website, and to call the Voter Protection Hotline at 1-888-730-5816.

Voter Protection Hotline: 1-888-730-5816.

OPTION 1: Vote Early in Person

If you can, make a plan now to vote early in person.

  • When: Early in-person voting runs from Monday, October 16th to Friday, November 3rd, including Saturdays. Some counties will also offer Sunday voting.
  • Where: Because this is a municipal election, some municipalities have opted to run their own elections this year rather than using the county Elections Office. So your Early Voting location(s) may be different than in other years.
  • How: If your county is running elections, visit https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/advanced-voting-location-information to find your early voting location. Otherwise, call/text the hotline at 1-888-730-5816 to find your early voting locations and times.

OPTION 2: Vote By Mail

If you have already requested an absentee ballot, return it ASAP once you receive it.

  • When: Ballots will be mailed to voters starting October 16th. They must be returned and received by your elections office by 7:00 pm on Election Day, November 7th.
  • How: You can return your ballot one of three ways:
    • Return to a ballot dropbox: You can bring your ballot to a dropbox during voting hours between now and November 3. Dropboxes will NOT be available on Election Day or anytime after November 3. Contact your local Elections Office to find your nearest drop box locations.
    • Drop off in person: You can bring your ballot directly to your Local Elections Office any time up to 7:00pm on Election Day, November 7th. On Election Day, you must return your absentee ballot to your elections office and cannot bring it to a voting location.
    • Mail: If you are unable to drop your ballot off in person, you can mail your ballot back to your Local Elections Office. If choosing this option, mail your ballot as soon as you receive it. All absentee ballots must be RECEIVED by the Elections Office by 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 7th.

If you have not yet requested an absentee ballot, we encourage you to make a plan to vote early in-person. But if voting by mail is easiest for you, request your ballot ASAP.

  • When: October 27th is the last day to request an absentee ballot.
  • Where: Requests must be returned to your local elections office. Sign in to My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov or call/text the hotline at 1-888-730-5816 to find the address, email address, and fax number for your local elections office.  Note: if your city is running their own elections, you must return your application and your ballot to your city elections office, not your county elections office.
  • How: Download an absentee ballot request form at this link: https://securemyabsenteeballot.sos.ga.gov/resource/1688626692000/AbsenteeBallotPDF. After printing and filling it out, you can return it one of three ways:
    • Mail: You can mail your request to your local elections office. If mailing your request, we recommend you do so as soon as possible, but in any event, no later than October 23rd so it arrives in time by the October 27th deadline.
    • Email or fax: You can email or fax your request to your local elections office.
    • Drop off in person: You can drop your request off in person at your local elections office.
