DPG Statement on Suspension of Legislative Session

March 13, 2020

ATLANTA – Tonight, Democratic Party of Georgia Chairwoman Nikema Williams released the following statement:

“Today, after pressure from activists and Democratic legislators, Republican leadership finally suspended legislative session — but not before rushing through contentious legislation to threaten voting rights and criminal justice reforms while worried Georgians prepare for a pandemic. Our communities are scared, our vulnerable are at risk, and our leaders are taking advantage of a national emergency to push through a divisive agenda that fails to meet the crisis ahead of us. This is the worst kind of politics, and I am ashamed to see Republican leadership not rise to the level Georgians need and certainly deserve.”
