Today, as the Georgia legislature convenes for its special session for redistricting, DPG Executive Director Kevin Olasanoye released the following statement:

“Two years ago, Georgia Republicans gerrymandered our state’s legislative and congressional maps to protect their own political prospects at the expense of Black Georgia voters. Today, they have a second chance to draw fair maps,” said DPG Executive Director Kevin Olasanoye. “The court’s order was a clear signal that Georgia Republicans’ days of suppressing the vote via racial gerrymandering are coming to an end – and that end must begin today. Georgia Democrats call on Republicans to comply with the federal court’s orders, put voting rights ahead of partisan interests, and join Democrats in working to create fair maps that give all Georgians a voice in our democracy.”
