Democratic Party of Georgia Responds to Historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework

Today, after President Biden announced a historic bipartisan agreement on infrastructure, Scott Hogan, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement: 

“Georgians elected President Biden trusting him to find common ground to get things done, and he’s done just that. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework announced today includes transformational investments in public transit, clean energy, universal broadband, and more. Simply put, this historic plan will make life better for millions of Georgians, create good-paying jobs right here in our state, and position Georgia workers, farmers, and businesses to compete and win in the 21st century.

“The last four months under President Biden and Democrats have shown what is possible when we have competent leadership at the helm. From containing a deadly pandemic to investing in our future, the message to the American people is clear: When it matters most, Democrats deliver.”

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework will:

• Modernize and expand transit and rail networks across the country. The framework is the largest federal investment in public transit in history and is the largest federal investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak.
• Repair and rebuild our roads and bridges. The framework is the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system.
• Connect every American to reliable high-speed internet, just as the federal government made a historic effort to provide electricity to every American nearly one hundred years ago. The framework will also drive down prices for internet service and close the digital divide.
• Deliver clean drinking water to up to 10 million American families and more than 400,000 schools and child care facilities that don’t currently have it. The framework, which eliminates the nation’s lead service lines and pipes, is the largest investment in clean drinking water and waste water infrastructure in American history. 
• Upgrade our power infrastructure, including by building thousands of miles of new, resilient transmission lines to facilitate the expansion of renewable energy, including through a new Grid Authority. The Plan is the single largest investment in clean energy transmission in American history.
• Electrify thousands of school and transit buses across the country. This will reduce harmful emissions while also driving domestic manufacturing of zero emission vehicles and components.
• Make the largest investment in addressing legacy pollution in American history, a cleanup effort that will create good-paying union jobs and advance environmental justice.
• Prepare more of our infrastructure for the impacts of climate change, cyber attacks, and extreme weather events. The framework is the largest investment in the resilience of physical and natural systems in American history.
