Help Move Georgia Forward
In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:
“Today we honor and reflect upon the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a son of Georgia, and recommit ourselves to continuing his unrelenting fight for freedom and equality. From his pulpit at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, to the National Mall in Washington, DC, Dr. King took his message of justice and dignity to every corner of America and forever changed the trajectory of our country.
“Dr. King’s call to action – to protect voting rights, fight economic inequality, and extend opportunity to each American regardless of income, race, or zip code – echoes as strongly today as it did half a century ago. As we celebrate his life, it is incumbent upon us to answer that call and continue building upon his legacy. Today and every day, the Democratic Party of Georgia invites our fellow Georgians to join us in working to create the beloved community that Dr. King envisioned: a nation of justice, equality, and opportunity for all.”
