Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia wrapped up its statewide “Democrats Deliver” tour with a press conference in Atlanta to highlight how President Biden and Democrats have delivered for Georgia families, farmers, small businesses, and workers.
Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia; State Representative Billy Mitchell; Ed Barlow, President of CWA Local 3204; Helio Bernal, Owner of Real Mexican Vittles Restaurant; and Cecil Price, III, Vice President of Morehouse College Chapter of National Action Network spoke during the event and highlighted the success of the American Rescue Plan and the jobs that will be created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
Throughout the week, elected officials, labor leaders, and community members joined DPG in Macon, Columbus, Augusta, and Savannah throughout the week to discuss the success of the American Rescue Plan in lowering health care costs and cutting taxes for middle class families, underscore the historic impact the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill will have on Georgia, and lay out the need to continue passing the Build Back Better agenda.
“Democrats Deliver” Tour Stop in Atlanta
“Throughout the week, folks across Georgia — in Columbus, Macon, Augusta, Savannah, and now, Atlanta — have been hearing about how Democrats are delivering real results for working families across the state. Just seven months after Georgia delivered the House, Senate, and White House for Democrats, Democrats are delivering for Georgia,” Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia said. “I’ve seen first hand how working people’s lives in this city and across the state are being changed thanks to the American Rescue Plan. It is revitalizing communities by supporting small businesses and giving cities and local governments more financial resources. It’s giving middle class families a tax cut, and just a little bit of extra relief so parents can provide for their kids and set them up for success. It’s giving our schools, colleges, and HBCUs resources to help students overcome the challenges we’ve been facing and thrive. This is why elections matter. Having President Biden and Democrats in charge means real people’s lives being made better every single day.”
“There’s no such thing as a Republican bridge. There’s no such thing as Republican infrastructure needs. There’s no such thing as Republican broadband issues. This should be a bipartisan issue that’s a win for workers, farmers, businesses, and families alike,” State Representative Billy Mitchell said. “Now is the time for Georgia Republicans to put aside partisan squabbling and join Democrats in passing this historic infrastructure bill, and get this done for the millions of Georgians who will benefit.”
“President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan helped Georgia workers stay on their feet during the pandemic,” Ed Barlow, President of Communication Workers of America Local 3204 said. “In particular, the Democrats’ Rescue Plan provided resources that allowed CWA to build sites for COVID testing and vaccinations to get our members and our community vaccinated.”
“It’s no understatement to say that the impact of the funds in the American Rescue Plan will be felt by HBCU students and our families for years to come,” Cecil Price III, Vice-President of Morehouse College Chapter of NAN said. “But our Democratic leaders didn’t stop there. Over the summer, Georgia’s Democratic Senators and Representatives in Congress helped secure another $175 million for Georgia HBCUs. HBCUs are an integral part of what makes Georgia great. President Biden gets that. Vice President Harris gets that. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock get that. Georgia’s six Democrats in Congress get that. That’s why Georgians – particularly young and Black Georgians – organized our peers and went to the ballot box in record numbers last year to flip Georgia Blue. And now, the Biden-Harris administration and Georgia Democrats are delivering.”
“The American Rescue Plan was a game changer for small business owners like me,” Helio Bernal, Owner of Real Mexican Vittles Restaurant said. “It included billions of dollars in additional relief for small businesses, including greater investments in the paycheck protection program to make sure we could continue to keep our employees on payroll, a massive restaurant revitalization fund to support restaurant owners, and more. This has been a lifesaver for the restaurant and small business communities. But even more than that, our economy is turning the tide as a whole thanks to President Biden and Democrats, and that’s made all the difference for our business.”
