Today, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Congresswoman Nikema Williams released the following statement:

“Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a great Georgian whose moral leadership brought our country closer to its highest ideals of justice, equality and opportunity for all. Georgia Democrats strive today and every day to realize Dr. King’s vision for our nation: a Beloved Community where everyone – regardless of race, socioeconomic background, or zip code – can cast a ballot, earn a dignified wage, and live with freedom.

“At a moment when our democracy is under threat from extreme right-wing forces, Dr. King’s call to action is more resonant than ever. As we honor his life, we must vigilantly oppose any new barrier to the ballot box and any new attempt to roll back our hard-won freedoms. Making good on Dr. King’s legacy demands nothing less than a relentless commitment to a democracy whose promise extends to all.”
