Before Herschel Walker takes the debate stage, it’s important to remember that the GOP candidate harbors dangerously bad policy beliefs. In the Senate, Herschel Walker would deny health care help for Georgians, opposing Medicaid expansion and other efforts to cut health care costs, and support making abortion totally illegal with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.
Herschel Walker supports dangerous, out-of-touch health care stances that Georgians oppose:
- Herschel Walker opposes Medicaid expansion, which would benefit tens of thousands of Georgians and create jobs, saying, “Medicaid has not been good. Right now, expanding is going to continue to bankrupt us. Everyone knows that.”
- Herschel Walker recently showed he has no understanding of how a major hospital closure would impact the health care that Georgians rely on. When Walker was asked about Wellstar’s intention to close the Atlanta Medical Center — one of the largest health care providers in Georgia — he said: “So I think what people need to do first is talk to Wellstar, and see what the problem is, then try to solve that problem.”
- Herschel Walker opposed the Inflation Reduction Act despite the much-needed relief it provides for the people of Georgia by fighting inflation, capping the cost of insulin, and lowering the cost of life-saving prescription drugs.
- Herschel Walker confirmed his support for a national abortion ban, outlawing abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or even to save the life of the mother — saying, there’s “no exception in [his] mind.”
