Today, Senate President Pro Tempore Butch Miller’s unnecessary constitutional amendment on citizen voting failed to pass the State Senate. Miller’s proposal comes after he failed to win Donald Trump’s endorsement in the GOP primary for Lieutenant Governor, and after racist comments he made attacking new Georgians “that don’t think like us,” stating that “they need to assimilate into our values and our culture.”

“Butch Miller’s proposed constitutional amendment is nothing more than a political stunt in his bid for higher office and a total waste of time, energy, and taxpayer money in a state that already mandates by law you must be a citizen to vote,” said Rebecca Galanti, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Anyone vying to help lead Georgia should be focused on addressing the real issues that actually impact everyday Georgians’ lives – not trying to further divide our state. It’s time for Georgia Republicans like Butch Miller to put aside their election-year political theater and join Democrats in working to make Georgia families’ lives better.”
