Help Move Georgia Forward
Georgia Republicans silent as Trump administration keeps exchanges closed and doubles-down on support for lawsuit to “terminate” health care law
ATLANTA — Today’s newly released unemployment numbers show over 20 million Americans lost their jobs last month while one out of four Georgia workers is now unemployed as a result of this crisis — but Georgia’s Republican Senate contenders still won’t stand up to the Trump administration as it refuses to reopen health care exchanges in this pandemic. In fact, they’re all backing a lawsuit to completely overturn the health care law and its critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions.
President Donald Trump recently confirmed he wants to “terminate health care” through this reckless lawsuit that Senator David Perdue has already said he “of course” supports after he and Congressman Doug Collins repeatedly voted to gut the health care law in Congress. Meanwhile, Senator Kelly Loeffler has pledged to stand behind Trump and Republican leadership “100%” — including this dangerous lawsuit that could rip access to care away from millions of Americans.
But rather than listen to the experts, Georgia Republicans remain focused on scoring political points with the White House and Governor* Brian Kemp, whose “reckless” plan to reopen Georgia “defies the warnings of many public health officials.”
“The last thing Georgians should have to worry about in this outbreak is their access to care — but thanks to Georgia Republicans, their health care coverage could be on the line right when they need it most,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “In the middle of an economic and public health crisis, Georgia’s Republican Senate contenders are clearly too focused on playing politics to help Georgia families.”
