Rep. MTG: “I have no respect for it.”

GOP U.S. Senate candidates Reps. Buddy Carter and Mike Collins have remained silent after being thoroughly slammed by fellow MAGA extremist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green for being members of the House “that love not being in session because they might be running for statewide races,” according to a new report from WSAV

Neither Carter nor Collins bothered showing up to work for over 50 days during the longest government shutdown in history and refuse to protect the 1.4 million Georgians who are bracing to see their ACA premiums skyrocket without extending crucial tax credits.

In Carter and Collins’ district, their constituents face potential average ACA premium increases of 296% and 345%, respectively, for an average 60-year-old couple.

Both Carter and Collins still have not responded to a request for comment on MTG’s attacks against them.

KEY EXCERPTS:

  • The ongoing government shutdown became the longest in U.S. history Wednesday and one U.S. House Representative expressed opinions on some members who are running for state office Thursday.
  • Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-D14) told the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) that she has “no respect” for members campaigning during the government shutdown, including Congressman Buddy Carter, who represents the Coastal Empire.
  • “…we have members that love not being in session because they might be running for statewide races, and they just love being able to stay home and run for their next job and I’ll be honest about that, I don’t know how anyone runs around their state saying, telling people to hire them for their next job, when we’re not even doing our current job,” Rep. Greene said Thursday.
  • “So, I don’t, I don’t even know how their people are campaigning right now for statewide races. I just, the whole thing is, I have no respect for it.”
  • While Greene did not directly name any members […] Both Carter and Collins are running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat Jon Ossoff.
  • “It’s been over 50 days since Buddy Carter and Mike Collins have bothered showing up to work and they are still completely opposed to extending crucial ACA tax credits for the 1.4 million Georgians who could see their premiums skyrocket,” Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Advisor Devon Cruz told WSAV.
  • “If Carter and Collins won’t show up to do the jobs they already have in the House, there is absolutely no way that the people of Georgia could count on them showing up to work on behalf of Georgians and their families in the United States Senate.”
  • WSAV contacted the Georgia Republican Party and the offices of Carter and Collins for statements, but did not receive a response at the time this article was published.
