Today, in light of President Trump recklessly threatening a 50 percent import tariff on Canadian-manufactured goods, here’s a reminder that Rick Jackson just *loves* tariffs.
Why does he love these cost-raising policies so much? Well, as he admitted to one Thomasville voter in March: he has personally profited off Trump’s tariffs by shorting the stock market on “liberation day” last year.
When asked about Trump’s tariff policies, Jackson replied: “The stock market went down last April when Trump announced [tariffs]. I went and bought options on the day that happened because I knew that was crazy and made an 80% return in four weeks.”
That’s right: Rick Jackson made money off the very same policies that were taking money directly out of Georgians’ pockets. We just have to ask: Will he do it again this time?
“Rick Jackson is a serial self-dealer who bases his policy decisions not on what’s best for Georgians, but based on what’s best for his bottom line,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “He proudly admits to making money off policies that hurt Georgia families – and that’s why we’re going to reject his harmful agenda come November.”
Jackson just loves to brag about the multiple ways he gotten rich off Georgia families.
- Despite getting rich off $1 billion in healthcare government contracts, Jackson strongly opposes Medicaid expansion, even as it has resulted in the closure of nine rural hospitals all across Georgia since 2010.
- When asked about the Big Ugly Bill that stripped 500,000 Georgians of healthcare, Jackson admitted supporting this bill because it lowered his taxes.
- When asked about high gas prices, Jackson boasted about investing in an oil refinery – admitting to profiting off pain at the pump even as he defends bringing back the gas tax.
- When asked about data centers, Jackson revealed that he invested in a data center and that his financial stake guided his support for them.
