After the Georgia Maternal Mortality Review Committee determined that two Georgia women died as a direct result of Gov. Brian Kemp’s extreme abortion ban, Kemp dismissed the entire commission. The committee’s crucial work of investigating the deaths of pregnant women is now on hold indefinitely while the state looks to replace all 32 members. Instead of acknowledging the deadly consequences of his extremism, Governor Kemp is trying to cover it up – and while he does, Georgia women will continue to suffer.

Since this news broke, new reporting found that Georgia’s maternal mortality rate – already among the highest in the nation – has increased during Governor Kemp’s tenure, with the overwhelming majority of the deaths deemed preventable
