As Donald Trump and David Perdue drive the Georgia GOP into “political civil war” and Herschel Walker refuses to endorse embattled Governor Brian Kemp in a “dead heat” primary, Georgia Republicans continue to sound off on Herschel Walker’s “closed-door” campaign:
- Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan calls out Perdue and Walker: Walker has no vision, not talking to voters. Earlier this week, Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan penned an op-ed asserting that Walker “has yet to articulate a political vision or make the case to voters why he is best-suited to be their senator,” while noting that much like Perdue, Walker has “not outlined a clear rationale or reason to run” for Georgians.
- Conservative Commentator John Fredericks: Walker will lose if this is their strategy. Fredericks, who attended Walker’s Mar-a-Lago fundraiser with Donald Trump, is among many “disappointed” conservatives sounding the alarm about Walker’s lackluster, “very controlled” campaign. Walker avoided any discussions of his policies as a candidate, prompting Fredericks to note that “I’m telling everybody that if that is their strategy, to just insulate the candidate from the public, they are going to lose this race.”
- Phil Kent, a Georgia GOP commentator, issued a “warning” to the Trump-tapped candidate. “Herschel Walker is going to have to get out there and take questions from the media,” Kent cautioned the candidate he’s supporting earlier this week. “Talk about some policies.”
- Former 2020 GOP Senate candidate Doug Collins criticized Walker’s campaign as “no policy, no issues, a lot of consultants.” That criticism comes on the heels of Republican rivals like Gary Black, whose spokesman cautioned that Walker’s candidacy “has potential to cost Georgia Republicans everything and America ceding the U.S. Senate to the Democrats again.”
