ANF: “Georgia is facing up to $8 billion in federal funding cuts to Medicaid…”

On the anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare becoming law, the Democratic Party of Georgia released a new video titled “$8 Billion”, slamming GOP U.S. Senate nominee Mike Collins’ vote to pass Donald Trump’s budget law.

The unpopular legislation includes over $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, another potential $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, and threatens the affordable health care coverage of hundreds of thousands of Georgians already facing skyrocketing health care premiums.

The video comes after the Democratic Party of Georgia held a press conference yesterday in Lavonia, Georgia outside of St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital, which sits in Collins’ congressional district. Last year, the hospital said that cuts to Medicaid “solidified” their decision to shutter their labor and delivery unit. Health care advocates and workers, including an expecting mother and former St. Mary’s nurse, who now has to drive over an hour into Greenville, South Carolina for her care, condemned Collins’ support for Medicaid cuts.

The video also highlights how Collins lied to a concerned constituent, saying there were “no plans to cut Medicaid funding” in Trump’s devastating budget law — after Collins had already voted for the bill.

“Mike Collins has proven to Georgians in every corner of the state that he does not care about protecting their access to affordable health care over enacting Donald Trump’s devastating cuts,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz.
