Help Move Georgia Forward

Today, Sara Tindall Ghazal held a virtual press conference ahead of this afternoon’s “emergency” meeting of the State Election Board, unlawfully called by three members of the Board at a time purposefully selected while Ghazal, the Board’s lone Democrat, was away.
Ghazal, an attorney and former voter protection professional, pointed out that the actions from these three GOP members of the Board were undertaken in violation of both the Board’s enabling legislation and Georgia open meetings laws. These violations not only delegitimize any actions taken or motions made at today’s meeting, but also undermine the Board itself and its standing as a primary authority to ensure that Georgia’s elections are conducted lawfully.
Georgia law requires that meetings of the State Election Board be posted publicly at least seven days in advance. As of 5:07pm Thursday, July 11 — less than 24 hours before the “emergency” meeting was scheduled to convene — no notice had been posted on the SEB website.
“I can’t speak to my fellow Board Members’ motivations for taking these actions, nor do I wish to give any additional oxygen to the disinformation they are spreading in an effort to undermine public confidence in our elections and delegitimize everything this board does moving forward,” said Ghazal. “But these violations make today’s meeting — and any actions taken or motions passed during that meeting — illegitimate.”
