WATCH: State legislators held a press conference after they released their demand for investigation
Demand for investigation follows an alarming recent report of possible corruption and abuse of Georgians’ tax payer dollars
Today, 35 state legislators are demanding that Governor Kemp support an independent investigation in the upcoming special session after reports uncovered a possible corruption and pay-to-play politics scandal between GOP U.S. Senate candidate Derek Dooley and Governor Kemp.
According to the reporting, state records showed that Governor Kemp helped line up tens of millions of Georgia taxpayer dollars for the Dooley family and then received over $100,000 to his PAC, which he then used to boost Derek Dooley’s U.S. Senate campaign.
“Reports that Governor Kemp lined up tens of millions of Georgia taxpayer dollars for the Dooley family and then received over $100,000 to his PAC, which he then used to boost Derek Dooley’s Senate campaign, raises obvious questions of possible corruption and pay-to-play politics. Our constituents deserve so much better and we have a lot of questions that must be answered. Today we are demanding that the Governor open an independent investigation into Centegix and no-bid contracts during this month’s special session.”

“Georgians deserve to know the truth, and they deserve it now,” said State Representative Shea Roberts. “That’s why today, alongside my colleagues from the House and Senate, we are announcing that we have signed a statement demanding Gov. Kemp open an independent investigation into Centegix and no bid contracts during this month’s special session.”
“As he runs for U.S. Senate, we know that Derek Dooley has been aggressively supported, and obviously hand held, by Gov. Brian Kemp. The governor has been at almost all of his events, he’s plastered all over his social media, and Derek Dooley doesn’t miss the opportunity to drop his name in every speech and interview he does,” said State Senator RaShaun Kemp. “So now you can understand why it would be concerning to learn that new reporting revealed Derek Dooley’s deep insider connections as he tries to run as a political outsider in the Republican runoff.”
