Trump-tapped Candidate Faces Criticism for COVID Conspiracies, Business Practices, “Underwhelming” Campaign

Last week, Herschel Walker’s campaign faced more turbulence as Georgia business leaders called him out for mocking businesses that took long-awaited federal COVID relief while profiting from it himself, new reporting highlighted his record of spreading COVID misinformation throughout the pandemic, and criticism continued to ramp up with Georgians calling Walker’s campaign “underwhelming.”

• Georgia Business Owners, Leaders Denounce Walker Over Questionable Business Practices: “Shameful,” “Disgusted.” Georgia elected leaders and business owners held a press conference last Tuesday slamming Herschel Walker after 11Alive revealed that one of his business interests took millions in pandemic relief loans while laying off 90% of its employees – even though Walker “mocked businesses that took PPP money.”

• Walker’s PPP Hypocrisy Is The Latest Red Flag With His Business Record. Before even entering the race, the Associated Press shined a light on Walker’s shady business record and “exaggerated claims of financial success,” with associates calling him a “temperamental and unreliable business partner.” 

• “Die-Hard Republicans” Sounding Off On Walker’s “Underwhelming” Campaign. Last week, a column in the Monticello News summed up Walker’s “closed-door” Georgia Senate campaign: “Ironically, Walker’s campaign appearances, as few as they have been, are met with curiosity. Even die-hard Republicans say Walker doesn’t appear to be a seasoned campaigner (which he is not) but they have also admitted at how underwhelming his events are.”

• “How Many Times Can Herschel Walker Fumble Before He’s Benched?” It’s “starting to become clear why Herschel Walker’s campaign team has tried to limit his public appearances and media interviews.”
