Release: Monday, April 17, 2017
Atlanta, GA – Today, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair DuBose Porter announced Lucy McBath will receive this year’s Chair’s Award at the 2017 State Dinner.
“There is no one more deserving of this award than Lucy McBath. Through her faith and fortitude, she has managed to transform her tragedy into a testimony for the prevention of senseless and cruel acts of violence. This award falls far short of what she deserves, but it is our honor to show Lucy our admiration and love Thursday evening.”
Lucy’s son, Jordan Davis, was shot and killed in an argument over loud music at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida on November 23, 2012. Lucy is the Faith and Outreach Leader for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action and in her personal capacity, is a member of the Mothers of the Movement.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by influential leaders and innovators in my home state of Georgia. It’s critical that we never take our freedoms for granted, that we challenge ourselves to fight for what is right and that we stand and fight to protect those who cannot protect themselves,” said Lucy McBath in a statement. “I believe that together, we can create a safer future for our loved ones, not only here in Georgia, but nationwide.”
The Chair’s Award will be presented at the Democratic Party of Georgia’s 2017 State Dinner, held this Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. DNC Chair Tom Perez will deliver welcoming remarks. Congresswoman Maxine Waters will deliver the keynote address.
