Statement from Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Nikema Williams On 500,000 COVID Deaths

February 22, 2021

Today, as the United States recorded its 500,000th death from COVID-19, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“As we reach half a million American deaths from COVID-19, including more than 16,000 of our fellow Georgians, I join everyone in praying for those we’ve lost and their loved ones. This tragic milestone underscores the urgent need for Congress to pass immediate COVID-19 relief and get help to struggling families across our country. There is light at the end of this dark tunnel: vaccine distribution is up, and we are on track to exceed the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of 100 million vaccine doses in its first 100 days. As we continue to stay strong and take appropriate safety precautions to reduce the spread of the virus, is it up to our leaders at the state and federal level to do their job in getting America back on its feet.”
