Jackson has consistently pushed policies that would raise costs on Georgians and benefit himself
Slick Rick Jackson is hellbent on raising Georgians’ costs. He pays lip service to the affordability crisis on the campaign trail – but the fact is that he’s the consummate insider who pushes for cost-raising policies that are making life much harder and more expensive for families all across our state.
“Georgia families are struggling, but billionaire insider Rick Jackson wants to buy the Governor’s Mansion so he can raise costs and keep lining his own pockets in the process,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “Slick Rick Jackson supports 100% of Donald Trump’s policies that are raising costs from the grocery store to the gas pump and everywhere in between. Slick Rick’s plan is clear: He wants to pocket more cash for himself, while Georgians pay more for everything.”
There’s almost no end in sight to Jackson’s cost-raising, economy-crushing agenda.
- He strongly supports and has profited Trump’s tariffs that have been a “gut punch” to Georgia small businesses – even as the tariffs have cost Georgians a $7 billion bill, one of the highest all across the country.
- He admitted to supporting Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill because it lowered his taxes – even as it kicked 500,000 Georgians off their healthcare and caused premiums to spike by more than $860 a month on average for more than 1.4 million Georgians.
- Despite making his fortune in part on state-funded healthcare contracts, Jackson opposes Medicaid expansion – a position which has driven up costs, made healthcare more inaccessible, and has caused nine rural hospitals to close since 2010.
- Earlier this week, Jackson dismissed Georgians’ concerns about our state failure to expand Medicaid, saying that he doesn’t “think the consequences” of failing to expand Medicaid “are as bad as anybody else thinks” – even as he has made billions off our broken, non-Medicaid expansion healthcare system.
- Jackson has revealed that he thinks bringing back the gas tax is the “right, prudent thing to do,” even as this tax increases prices at the pump by 33 cents a gallon while Georgians are paying nearly a dollar more per gallon than this time last year.
It should come as no surprise that Jackson supports these cost-raising policies, given his close alignment with Trump’s agenda that has sent costs through the roof.
- Standing next to President Trump in Marietta last month, Jackson said he wants to “reduce affordability to the lowest it’s ever been.” Talk about a freudian slip!
- At the same event, Jackson dismissed the cost-of-living crisis, saying that “Affordability is not a political problem.”
- Jackson has also made clear that he’ll push cost-raising Trump policies no matter how much they hurt Georgians, telling the AJC earlier this year that he couldn’t think of a single Trump policy he disagrees with.
