Senate Passes Trump’s Harmful Budget Bill With Support of GOP U.S. Candidates in Georgia

Today, Republicans in the U.S. Senate passed Donald Trump’s harmful budget bill that is filled with attacks on working families, after the bill made it through the House with the backing of GOP U.S. Senate candidates Rep. Buddy Carter, Commissioner John King, and Rep. Mike Collins, who is reportedly considering a run.

The passage of the bill comes after recent analysis and reporting found that it would have devastating effects on Georgia’s health care and economy:

• The Congressional Budget Office found that the bill would leave nearly 12 million Americans uninsured, including 750,000 Georgians, while exploding the budget by $3 trillion.
  
• The AJC reported that Georgia’s rural hospitals could lose $540 million, and put multiple rural hospitals “at risk of cutting services or closing.”
  
• The bill threatens thousands of jobs across Georgia as Republicans push attacks on battery factories that employ Georgians even in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the Republicans running for Senate, and those considering it, Buddy Carter, John King, and Mike Collins have proudly stood behind this bill, even with the damage it would bring to Georgia:

• Insurance Commissioner John King said he would “absolutely” vote to pass the Medicaid cuts in the GOP’s budget bill if he were in the Senate.
  
• “MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter told Georgians that he “wanted to cut Medicaid more.”
  
• Rep. Mike Collins — a MAGA extremist who is reportedly weighing a run for U.S. Senate — said he wants people to “get off of Medicaid, get off of Social Security.”

“Donald Trump’s harmful budget bill made its way through the Senate in large part due to the staunch, vocal support Republicans like Buddy Carter, John King, and Mike Collins gave the bill every step of the way, cheering it on while Georgians are set to suffer,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “These Republicans have made it clear that Georgians rank dead last on their list of priorities. We will do everything in our power to keep them, and any other GOP contenders who enter the race, out of the U.S. Senate.”
