Jackson has yet to commit to a debate that gubernatorial candidates have participated in for more than twenty years.
With the general election heating up, a reminder that it’s now been over two months of Rick Jackson refusing to commit to the Atlanta Press Club’s Loudermilk-Young debate that gubernatorial candidates in both parties have participated in for more than twenty years. Meanwhile, Keisha Lance Bottoms readily accepted the debate invitation on June 23.
Jackson has been dodging key debates and forums throughout his campaign. During the Republican primary, Jackson skipped a forum focused on issues facing the Black community – and then, during the high-stakes GOP run-off, Jackson skipped the second debate with Burt Jones after he bombed his first performance so badly that even Fox News called him out on it.
“Over two months later and Jackson still won’t commit to a debate that gubernatorial candidates in both parties have participated in for more than twenty years. What on earth is Slick Rick hiding and why is he so determined to keep Georgia voters in the dark about his record?” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland.
As Jackson faces intense questions and scrutiny about his history of getting rich off Georgia taxpayers and personally profiting off our broken healthcare system, Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear that one debate simply isn’t enough. That’s why today she challenged Jackson to six general election debates all across our state – a challenge that Jackson, in typical fashion, has yet to accept.
