One year since Trump’s harmful “Liberation Day” tariffs, here’s your reminder that every single Republican running for governor supports these cost-raising measures – including Rick Jackson, who boasted about profiting off these policies as Georgia families and small businesses struggle to keep up with skyrocketing costs.
Georgians have footed $7.1 billion of the tariff bill — one of the highest totals in the country – but that hasn’t stopped Jones, Jackson, Raffensperger, and Carr from strongly supporting these policies. As a result, Georgia families are now shelling out $1,200 more annually to keep up with the rapidly intensifying cost-of-living crisis sweeping across the state.
“Every single Republican running for governor supports Trump’s reckless tariffs that are jacking up costs for Georgia families and small businesses – and Rick Jackon even profited off the tariffs as they pulled money out of our pockets. Georgians are sick and tired of Republicans’ cost-raising chaos,” said Jake Strickland, communications advisor to the Democratic Party of Georgia.
The GOP field widely supports Trump’s tariffs that are jacking up prices and hurting farmers and small businesses:
- Rick Jackson was caught bragging about how much money he made off Trump’s tariffs, telling a crowd in Thomasville he made “an 80% return in four weeks” after fallout from the tariffs crashed the stock market. But even as these policies have jacked up costs, threatened jobs at the Port of Savannah, and have been described as a “gut punch” by Georgia small business owners, Jackson somehow still says he can’t “think of a single White House policy he disagrees with.”
- Burt Jones stood by Trump as he declared tariffs “the most beautiful word” and told the AJC that he “was not concerned that Trump’s proposed tariffs could hurt any economic relief.” He even claimed that he was not concerned about the tariffs’ impacts on Georgia farmers, even as producers of everything from soybeans to peaches, strawberries and pumpkins have struggled to keep up with these cost-raising policies.
- And the entire GOP field has stood by as these cost-raising policies have crushed our state, even as Georgians continue speaking out loud and clear against the price hikes we’re seeing on food, fuel, and everything in between as a result of Trump’s tariffs.
