As we mark the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade today, Herschel Walker and the entire Georgia GOP Senate field continue to stand against Georgians’ reproductive freedom. While the Supreme Court has upheld the right to choose for half a century now, Georgia’s GOP Senate candidates support total bans on abortion — even in cases of rape or incest.
A reminder of where Georgia’s GOP Senate field stands on restricting reproductive rights:
- Trump-tapped candidate Herschel Walker is “strongly pro-life,” pledged to support judges who would overturn Roe, and has made it clear that he will “vote for any legislation” that bans abortions — “including in instances of rape and incest”
- Gary Black lauded anti-choice measures, including those that provide no exemptions for incidents of rape or incest.
- Latham Saddler promised that the “kinds of judges I’ll vote to approve” in the Senate are anti-choice — before contending that Georgia’s six-week anti-abortion measure “should now go forward, too.”
- Kelvin King “applauded the ruling” that opens the door to reversing Roe v. Wade and limiting Georgians’ right to make their own health care decisions.
“Herschel Walker and the rest of the GOP Senate field have made it clear time and again that they’ll support every dangerous effort to undermine Roe v. Wade and strip away the rights of individuals and families to make their own personal health care decisions,” said Dan Gottlieb, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “It is clear that the stakes in 2022 for Georgia families couldn’t be higher — which is why Georgia Democrats will continue to do everything in our power to safeguard Georgians’ reproductive freedom and hold Republicans like Walker accountable for backing shameful abortion bans in Georgia and beyond.”
