Attorney General and Republican candidate for governor Chris Carr today doubled down on his long-time support for Georgia’s extreme abortion ban that has led to a maternal mortality crisis sweeping across the state.

At a luncheon in Atlanta, Carr was introduced by Faith and Freedom Coalition Executive Director Mack Parnell as having “defended the Heartbeat Law every step of the way” – and spoke to the crowd about his long record as Attorney General defending the law, which has made Georgia home to one of the most extreme abortion bans across the country.

Carr also used the event as an opportunity to attack his opponent Burt Jones, the latest show of messy infighting that has defined the GOP primary.

As this race continues to lurch to the right, the three leading Republican candidates for governor have all endorsed extreme abortion bans – and Carr’s opponents Burt Jones and Brad Raffensperger also have long records fighting to rip away Georgians’ reproductive freedom.
