Jackson Has Said He Is Running to Be “Trump’s Favorite Governor” and Has No Disagreements with the Trump Administration

In an eyebrow-raising moment from billionaire Rick Jackson’s out-of-touch and extreme campaign for governor, Jackson admitted to having “no idea” about a critical flood reduction grant for coastal Georgia that was cancelled last year by the Trump Administration. It’s just the latest sign that he’s out of touch with Georgia – and unwilling to listen to Georgians who are being hurt by harmful policies coming out of Washington.

Speaking with WTOC’s Shea Schrader on March 13, Jackson said that he had “no idea what you’re talking about” in response to a question about the $30 million Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant that was designed to help Savannah reduce the risk of flooding before the Trump Administration cancelled the grant in April 2025.

“Rick Jackson is running for the state’s top job and yet doesn’t know the first thing about fighting for Georgians. He’s shown us at every turn that he’s just another out-of-touch billionaire trying to buy the Governor’s Mansion – but his MAGA millions can only go so far,” said Jake Strickland, communications advisor to the Democratic Party of Georgia.

This comes as Jackson has made his campaign an “uncompromising embrace of President Donald Trump’s agenda” and has repeatedly promised he will be “Trump’s favorite governor.”

Since entering this race, Jackson has time-and-time again shown just how out-of-touch he is with Georgians. Previous reporting from the AJC revealed that Jackson is deeply invested in Big Oil, profiting off Georgians’ pain as the average gas price has surged over 25 percent since last month and diesel now stands at more than $5 a gallon. He also previously shared on The Martha Zoller Show that it was a “surprise” to learn about the high costs facing Georgia homeowners in the midst of the state’s housing affordability crisis – even as Republicans have been in power in Georgia for more than two decades.
