Help Move Georgia Forward
Atlanta, GA – One week after the mass shooting that left four people dead at Apalachee High school in Winder, GA, the Trump campaign and Georgia Republicans hosted a debate watch party at Adventure Outdoors – the largest gun store in the United States.
In response, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance telling America we have to accept the gun violence plaguing our schools and communities as a ‘fact of life’ is bad enough, but the Trump campaign and Georgia Republicans holding a debate watch party at a giant gun superstore less than a week after two students and two teachers were murdered at Apalachee High School is much darker, even for them. Accepting this as normal is a policy choice. Protecting our children and protecting the Second Amendment are not mutually exclusive choices – we can do both. While Trump, Vance, and Kemp have chosen to do nothing, Georgia Democrats, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will fight for our freedom to live in communities safe from gun violence.”
While the Trump campaign and republicans held their debate watch party at the America’s largest gun store, Democratic state leaders — including Minority Leader Gloria Butler, Senator Emanuel Jones, and Senator Elena Parent — joined with gun violence survivors in the State Capitol demanding a safer Georgia and calling for passage of common sense gun safety legislation like Safe Storage and Extreme Risk Laws.
