In the latest sign of tensions roiling through the GOP, Rick Jackson dodged the Georgia Republicans’ 250 Rodeo event today. Meant to convey unity, Jackson’s glaring absence only underscores the deep divisions among Republicans heading into the general election.
Jackson’s decision not to attend the event also comes as Burt Jones has spent the last four days flat-out refusing to endorse his nomination for governor, further dividing the Georgia GOP after a bruising primary fight filled with accusations of corruption.
“Georgia Republicans are deeply divided, and Rick Jackson knows it. That’s why he’d rather hide out in his billionaire bunker than face the fractures in his own party,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “Time and time again, Jackson has shown he’ll hide out when he’s under pressure – and that failure to lead is exactly why we’ll reject him in November.”
Jackson has frequently failed to show up for Georgians throughout his campaign. Since becoming the GOP nominee, Jackson has repeatedly dodged opportunities to speak with Georgians. During the primary, he ducked a June 1 debate with Burt Jones after his first performance was such a disaster that even Fox News called him out on it. Before that, Jackson faced questions and scrutiny for his refusal to show up for a March GOP forum focused on issues facing the Black community.
