GOP Senate Candidates Back “Politically Toxic” Attacks
Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent plainly admitted that Donald Trump’s recently signed budget law includes new provisions that serve as a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”
Trump’s budget law has been supported by all of the announced and potential candidates in Georgia’s GOP U.S. Senate primary, including “unapologetic MAGA warriors” Rep. Buddy Carter and Rep. Mike Collins, and failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley.
Georgia’s GOP U.S. Senate candidates have made clear that attacking critical programs like Social Security, and even Medicaid, are at the top of their priorities, with Carter stating that he “wanted to cut Medicaid more” and Collins telling Georgians he wants them to “get off of Medicaid, get off of Social Security.”
“Republicans are finally saying the quiet part out loud: the Trump administration’s agenda that every GOP Senate candidate in Georgia supports is a blatant attempt to chip away at Georgians’ earned benefits like Social Security,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “Georgians deserve to benefit from programs they’ve paid into and worked hard for, and they will reject candidates like Carter, Collins, and Dooley who disagree.”
