Yesterday, reproductive health care advocates held a press conference in Atlanta to mark the fourth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision and slam GOP U.S. Senate nominee Mike Collins on his extreme anti-abortion record.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Georgians have been living under the “toughest abortion [ban] in the country” which has put doctors at risk of felony charges and led to the deaths of multiple Georgia women.

Mike Collins Is Running for U.S. Senate on His Extreme Anti-Abortion Record:

  • Collins is one of the most extreme opponents of abortion rights and wants to ban abortion with no exceptions, even in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is at risk.
  • In a debate while running for Congress, Collins said, “I have always stated and I’ve always been and always will be 100 percent pro-life, period. No exceptions.”
  • Collins celebrated the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • In the House, Collins supported legislation that could threaten access to IVF for Georgians.

“It is incredibly shameful how proud extreme Republican Mike Collins has been to support such a deadly abortion ban as he runs for Senate on his record of anti-abortion extremism,” said State Rep. Lisa Campbell. “He wants to ban abortion with no exceptions, even in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is at risk. He wants government interference in our personal lives, and in his own words, he has said, ‘I’ve always stated’, and he said he’s ‘always been and will always be 100% pro-life, no exceptions.’ How much more callous and controlling can one be?

“Families are losing mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives, preventable deaths enabled by Georgia’s six week abortion ban,” said State Rep. Dr. Michelle Au. “Mike Collins, how dare you step between doctors and our patients, their families, and the personal medical choices we make together. How dare you. Georgia deserves better than leaders like you.”

“Black women in Georgia have lost their lives under this dangerous ban. Others have been denied care, forced to wait until conditions worsen, and have had to leave the state to receive necessary health care,” said State Sen. Nikki Merritt. “Mike Collins has proudly stood by Georgia’s dangerous abortion ban, and Georgia cannot trust Congressman Mike Collins and his extreme anti-abortion agenda in the United States Senate.”

“I’m here today to make sure that folks know it’s time that we organize, fight against extremism, fight against people like Mike Collins, who are here to take our rights away, and let’s make sure that we’re supporting women in this fight,” said Blake Robinson representing Men 4 Choice.

“It is time for us to recognize that we cannot accept the laws that we are currently experiencing in our communities. It is costing us lives, like Amber Thurman, like Candy Miller, like Adriana Smith. It is not hyperbole,” said Rev. Estee Dillard of Sister Song. “Sister Song will not stand for us to continue to live under laws that prevent us from being able to move with our bodily autonomy, to move in our God-given freedom, and to move in our sacred rights.”
