Jackson, a healthcare billionaire, has zero plan to improve health care– except to keep getting rich off the status quo that is failing Georgians.
Today, Georgia Democrats held a press conference outside the now-shuttered Atlanta Medical Center South in East Point to highlight Georgia’s ongoing healthcare crisis and how GOP gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson has failed to present any plan to fix it– not even mentioning the word “healthcare” once in the 27-point ‘Action Plan’ on his website.
State Representative Stacey Evans, Atlanta-based OBGYN Dr. Bria Peacock, and Reverend Eric Thomas spoke out against Jackson’s failure to present a healthcare plan other than maintaining the status quo that has helped him get him so rich, particularly at a time when premiums have gone up by $860 on average in the last year, 500,000 have lost their insurance since the start of 2026 alone, and nine rural hospitals have shut down across our state.
Here’s what they had to say about Jackson’s failure to present Georgians with a healthcare plan:
Rep. Stacey Evans: “The GOP governor nominee and billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson has failed to present any plans whatsoever of how he’d solve the problems plaguing too many Georgia families. Jackson has spent his career in healthcare, but his policy plan has exactly zero mentions of any healthcare plan, of the word insurance, of the word healthcare, of the word medicine. Zero. Why would a healthcare billionaire not have a plan on healthcare? Because we know that his plan is to keep propping himself up while we pay more for less care. Rick Jackson made 1 billion – with a B – from Georgia taxpayers, including a no-bid contract from the state. He wants to keep getting richer while we foot the bill.”
Dr. Bria Peacock: “As Georgians evaluate the future of our state, I hope they ask every candidate one simple question: What is your plan to improve healthcare for the people of Georgia? Georgians deserve leaders who take these challenges seriously and are committed to improving access to quality healthcare for everyone.”
Reverend Eric Thomas: “We’re standing here today in front of a hospital that’s closed, and this is not the only one that’s closed in Atlanta. But the problem is not just an urban problem. This is a Georgia problem. All over the state, hospitals have closed as a result of negligence as it relates to expansion of healthcare, and for some reason, it’s not been considered a crisis. Even as we start talking about the Republican candidate for governor today, it is not a priority for him to address healthcare and healthcare needs throughout the state.”
Not only does Jackson lack plans to fix Georgia’s health care crisis, he strongly supports the same status quo policies that have resulted in Georgia’s current healthcare crisis.
- Jackson vocally opposes Medicaid expansion, a position which has resulted in nine rural hospitals shutting their doors since 2010. Despite this, Jackson has made his fortune in healthcare, earning over a billion dollars in state healthcare contracts since 2020.
- Jackson strongly supports Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that has raised average premiums costs by $860 and kicked half a million Georgians off their healthcare. Jackson admitted that his support for this bill was driven by the fact that it lowered his own taxes.
